Yes the title sounds racist, but it's just the opposite. I don't give a damn what colour your skin is, if you terrorize people, you're a terrorist. Period.
In Ontario we have a bunch of natives blocking a rail line and a road because of a land claim dispute (which the natives in question gave up their claims to the land 150 years ago). They're fortifying their location and building makeshift weapons in preparation for the police to try and remove them. (oh and others are now getting involved and protesting in simpathy to this group of natives!)
This is terrorism plain and simple.
Terrorists are either killed or put on trial and killed or imprissoned for life. But no, in Canada we have a double standard with our natives. Somehow they're above the law even though they take our money and the 87% of unemployed natives that have no education in the country essentially leach their existence off of some ill founded guilt of the white man.
The question is why do we have this double standard? Compared to essentially every other "native people" anywhere in the world, Canada's native people were, when the settlement of North America was happening, treated fantastically. When they decided that they didn't want to be part of our society, we recognized the land that they were occupying. With few exceptions we didn't take it back after we recognized their land claims in the first place without the natives freely selling the land at market value with 0 coercion. In the case of these natives the province of Ontario even asked them before they made the land public land if it was OK and if there were any claims to the land, and the natives said go ahead (this was back in the 1800s). But because it's worth something now, they want to get greedy and make money from it and are quite happy to hold people and the land hostage for their greed. It's time to look again at the "native issue" and realize that what we're doing is a complete failure and neither serving the natives nor Canadians because this keeps happening. And again, lets be clear: Native people before the whiteman were living in squaller. I mean complete poverty barely eating enough food to sustain themselves. (Much like Europeans before the advent of Liberty and the book "Wealth of Nations" was published and subsequently the American Revolution.) In the 500 years since natives have partaken in all that is comfortable and enables them to live a better life caused by their western "conquerers" (as evidenced by their endeminic obesity that is 100 times worse than the average in North America) but declines to contribute to that same society. If you want to live the way you did before we came, then fine. But you don't get to rid around on snow mobiles or kill your dinner with a shotgun. You get to live in leaky huts and grind your corn by hand with a mortar and pisstle and shoot your pray on your own lands with a bow and arrow... oh ya, and be subject to other native communities attacking yours on a regular basis and rapping your women and pilliaging any wealth that you might have had. This is what you're holding as an ideal that you want to keep. If you want it, then you may have it. If you would rather partake in everything great in our society, then you must participate. No freeloaders.
Their actions are, by definition, terrorism. And like an incident of hostage taking in down town Toronto about 8 months ago (a white man btw.), we put down hostage taker as soon as possible without collateral damage: with a bullet to his skull. Which is as it should be. Thugs and barbarians are should be treated with the same amount if civilization as they act. One of the natives on camera said "We were never conquered! We'll never give up!" Ok, if you want to act like this, then we'll roll in with tanks and snippers and conquer you. To the last man if necessary. Barberic actions must responded to violently and without remorse or question. Give them exactly what they are asking us for.
As for how to fix the problem: In 3 years Canada pays every native person 1 million dollars in grants, and blood money to the band councils. Instead, let's get a bank loan, and pay directly by cashier's cheque to each and every 1/4 native or more $1 million. In exchange for this one time offer they relinquish all rights and privileges to any land claims beyond land that they personally currently hold the deed to and are subject to all Canadian laws and from that point forward must pay taxes on everything the earn in the future ( the 1 million would be non-taxable of course). Yes, there would be some of them that would turn you down, but then you prosecute this current kind of barbarity vigorously and take away their blood money that we're paying them, and take away their welfare cheques and the problem goes away in one hell of a hurry because they'd get off their asses and work if only to pay their land taxes. (I'm talking about the 87% not the ones that already work and are admirable members of Canadian society that wouldn't engage in this kind of bull shit anyhow.)
You make each and every one of them millionaires overnight. If they want more land, they can buy it like everyone else. They have no excuse because with marginally good private management of that money, they'd be able to live in better conditions than they currently do on welfare for the rest of their lives. They would be empowered to live their lives they way they want subject only to the laws of civilized society. Instead of creating a completely castrated portion of society like we have done and the liberals in the United States did with blacks encouraging them to go on Welfare for life, which of course resulted in New Orleans, we would be creating a group of people that can live their lives with freedom, and the ability to accomplish whatever they wished. The $1 million would simply be a "oops, sorry for fucking up your lives like the French have done with their immigrants, here's our way of fixing it." End result: Happier native people integrated in society and productive and in the end happier and we get rid of a drain on our economy, we solve one of the most deplorable situations in Canadian history and no more roads would be blocked! (oh and no cheap cigarettes for people anymore either!) (and to make clear, there is nothing stopping them from having their rituals etc. under Canadian law. Pote is not illegal in Canada.)
This is yet again proof that socialism is a complete and utter failure. The next time someone spouts crap about socialism being wonderful, use the natives as an example. We have socialized them for > 100 years and given them no reason to live their own lives, and we now have a catastrophe waiting to happen. Whether it be tainted water, the 75% or greater of their children that are addicted to something, or some other undefined disaster that has yet to strike it is happening and will get worse unless we undo the evils of socialism and allow these people to become whatever they wish with a limitless horizon so long as they choose to work for it like every other person on the face of the earth (And yes I'm including the French which will have to work sooner or later or their society will collapse...)
Steven Harper: Show that you actually have some stones. Take over the situation with the military. Get in the top of a tank with a bullhorn, roll up to the baracade and tell them that they have 5 minutes to surrender. When they don't, have a snipper, on your own personal orders, put a bullet through the shoulder of the leader and then get on the bullhorn again and tell them that they have 2 minutes to surrender or everyone will be treated with the same experience. And if necessary do it. Terrorism is terrorism. The colour of one's skin does not give you special priviliages or determine the law. I thought we learned that 200 years ago with the abolishment of slavery in the then British Empire.
